All over the world, cities are increasing in wickedness. It is becoming more and more evident that those who remain in them unnecessarily do so at the peril of their soul's salvation. On every hand are the sights and sounds of evil. Everywhere are enticements to sensuality and dissipation. The tide of corruption and crime is continually swelling. Every day brings the record of violence, --abuse, murders, suicides, and crimes unnamable.

It seems like more than ever, life itself is more false and artificial. The intense passion for making money. The whirl of excitement and pleasure-seeking. The thirst for display. The luxury and extravagance. All these are forces that are turning the mind from life's true purpose. They are opening the door to a thousand evils.

Before we are relieved of such perilous conditions here on earth, the Lord calls upon us to prepare ourselves and to extend help to others.

The angels of mercy hurried Lot and his wife and daughters by taking hold of their hands. Had Lot hastened as the Lord desired him to, his wife would not have become a pillar of salt. Lot had too much of a lingering spirit. Let us not be like him. The same voice that warned Lot to leave Sodom, bids us, "Come out from among them, and be ye separate, . . . and touch not the unclean." Those who obey this warning will find a refuge. Let everyone be wide awake for themselves. Let us gird ourselves for the work. God will reveal from point to point what to do next.

Lot trod the plain with unwilling and tardy steps. He had so long associated with evil workers that he could not see his peril until his wife stood on the plain a pillar of salt forever.

We have been given a Great Commission. We are currently in the intermission between God's accomplishment of redemption and His return to consummate His blessings. However, this intermission is not a time for loitering in the lobby as consumers. This is a time for urgent action. A time of activity. A time of loving and serving those that we come in contact with.

In society, loitering is a crime. Businesses post multiple signs to deter people from idly taking up space. Once one stops to waste time there, others stop to dawdle as well. If we do not develop a sense of urgency or a drive to work, we become spiritual loiterers. Sooner or later, our lackadaisical spirit begins to influence others around us until there are no workers...only bystanders.

Luke 6:46 says, "But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord' and do not do the things which I say?"

Lord, let me not be just a hearer of the Word...but a doer.

Is it possible to be addicted to a city?

If so, San Francisco is my drug of choice.

Growing up in small town Texas, surrounded by acres of farmland & night skies larger than life, I thought I would never enjoy such a high-energy metropolis. My belief was that I could never love "the city" as much as I did the complete calm and relaxation of the country.

I was wrong.

In all honesty, my first visit to San Francisco was a bit overwhelming. The mister, in his trademarked southern drawl, said, "Let's just drive around and check it out."

Of course, anyone who has ever driven there knows that it's not that easy. Especially when you're not from some other booming U.S. city. But, off we went.

As we drove down the Embarcadero, I felt the excitement of seeing the bay and the hustle & bustle on the pier. Traffic was a little more than what we were used to, but that was expected. It was as he turned and traveled away from the bay, that I realized how close everything looked. Not just close, but CLOSE. Cars zipping by. Pedestrians walking out in the street. Buildings towering over us so that I could see the top from our car.

Yes, things were VERY close.

Disclaimer: I think I trust the mister's driving. However, I do not trust it enough to hide my fear of his habitual slamming of the brakes & ability to be easily distracted.

The fear I mentioned above was amplified multiple times due to the factors surrounding us. I believe this was the moment I might have freaked out a little. Looking back, I'm sure that my reaction to our current situation could have in no way improved the mister's driving skills. On the contrary, I'm sure it made him a nervous wreck right along with me.

So, here we are: Two little podunk Southerners from Northeast Texas, trying to drive our happy little selves through the second-most densely populated large city in the United States. All the while, I am realizing that I might be just a wee bit claustrophobic. Get the picture?

Poor mister.

Since then, I have thankfully grown accustom to San Francisco. More than that, I actually love it there. I am closer than ever to understanding why Tony Bennett belted out, "I left my heart in San Francisco."

I'm past the tourism phase & now have my favorite haunts. This weekend I visited some of my favorite places with some of my favorite people. I recommend that anyone spending any amount of time there, stop by. Our day included lunch at Steps of Rome in Little Italy, the divine chocolate macaroons of awesomeness at Eastern Bakery in Chinatown & shopping on Powell St. Of course, I have photos to capture my day's activities:

I know most of you have been influenced by someone to read "The 5 Love Languages," or at least to take the quiz. I, too, have been bitten by that bug. However, I have yet to find the "friendship love language" test.
I can honestly say that my marriage love language & my friendship love language is completely different. In my marriage, my love languages are words of affirmation & touch. In friendship? Teasing.
I know that isn't exactly the most positive expression of love, but it's me.
Because of this quality, I have been known to recite a friendship disclaimer to newcomers. If you haven't heard it yet, you should be educated so as to not offend you in the future.
It usually goes something like this:

"Ok. If we're going to close friends, you should be aware of something. I tend to show affection through sarcasm and teasing. If I really meant the things I say, I wouldn't be saying them. Honestly, I like to avoid confrontation. So, don't be offended or take me seriously. If I give you a hard time, it means I like you. If I offend you, please tell me so I can correct it. Deal?"

Speaking of friends, I have awesome ones. My 4th of July weekend was amazing because of them! My white self spent a LOT of time at the lake with my girlies. Thank the good Lord for sunshine! Lake time, BBQ, friends & fireworks = awesome sauce. Here are a few of my favorite pics from this weekend.

Oh San Francisco. I love thee.

Saturday was yet another day to run away to the big city for some fun with my friends. I’ve found that any trip with my friend, Cressie, includes multiple stops for yummy food. She has the ability to sniff out a bakery anywhere. She’s bad for me. So, so bad.

First stop? Chinatown for a tea tasting.

Every time we’re in Chinatown, this place is a must. Eastern Bakery is the best EVER! Everyone should stop in and try their steamed pork buns or their AMAZING macaroons.

Like I said, we made many food stops. Next for lunch was a stop at Steps of Rome Cafe. I’d say the best place for Italian food. Whether it be a panini or classic lasagna….all I can say is NOM!

I tried a little off of everyone’s plate, but wasn’t too hungry when we arrived. So, my lunch was a little different…

Don’t judge.

Of course, after a short walk it was time for gelato. Yummy, yummy gelato. And Gelateria Naia is the place with the most yummy flavors. My gelato of choice was half roasted banana and half chocolate malt. Once again….NOM!

So, we grabbed gelato and walked to Washington Square Park to enjoy the art show.

Afterwards, lounging in the park sounded just right. Landry took that a little too far.

We also made a new furry friend. Meet Obi Wan. Such a friendly little guy.

Wakey, wakey eggs & bakey! Landry finally joins the land of the living.

Next random stop? Picking up an upright bass on Langton. I know, random. Loved the surroundings though.

Jo was even able to make his own mark on the wall. One single brush stroke.

I love pictures of doors. Don’t ask why…I can’t tell you.

Most days I agree, but due to the wondrous amount of sleep I got this weekend...it's not so bad!

Amazing, I know.

The majority of my immense giddiness is due to one amazing co-worker and his epic baking skills.

Just about everyone I know loves a chocolate chip cookie. Now that I think of it, I've never met a person that would turn down that chocolatey awesomeness. It is also very rare to find a person who doesn't enjoy the comfort of a glass of milk and Oreos.

But combine the two?

Oh yes, my friend. He did.

It is because of this epic treat that I have decided to no longer refer to this day as Monday.

The sixth day of the fourth month has come and gone....again.

I think birthdays are important, especially considering the condition of those who no longer have them. While turning 31 may be bringing me to the realization that I am now in my thirties, I still enjoy the festivities.

Still, I realize that I'm getting older. This is the oldest I've ever been.
This is what thirty-one years looks like.

While I am thankful that the chili bowl phase is gone, I'm still a bit weary of being older.

Since turning 30 last year, I have celebrated birth weeks rather than birthdays. This is a brilliant tradition in my opinion. This year, I awoke like a child on Christmas morning. Bright-eyed & bushy-tailed. It was all for good reason. This has been an amazing birth week.

It all started when I arrived to work that morning. My co-workers may have had something to do with this.

The day also included:

*Asian-themed potluck
*Hostess Ding Dong birthday cake
*Homemade Chocolate Chip cookies from my "California Grandmother"

I was also given this amazing cupcake by a co-worker.

And....my "California brother" Matt gave me something amazing. No clue what it's called, but I like to call it "Yummy Coconutty Ice Cream Goodness."

Yummo!!

Also, what makes a great present for me? Ninja Turtles. (I'm a nerd.)

That night, we hit up Buffalo Wild Wings with some friends and my birthday twin, Tim.

Saturday was the best day ever. I started the day with a girls' day in San Francisco with Jeni, Cressie & Danielle.

I LOVE to spend time near the water. Cressie, our amazing chaffuer, was nice enough to let me spend most of our day there. Bath houses. Beaches. Golden Gate. Great food. Amazing day!

This week has been majorly lame. I want a redo.

This week, my Uncle Don lost his courageous fight against cancer. It seems as if one day I'm getting a bear hug & kiss on the cheek...the next, I'm saying goodbye. At least, saying goodbye the best I know how from 1700 miles away.

I'm going to miss that handsome guy.

Terribly.

Those who knew him were blessed, and those who didn't totally missed out. I am so glad that I not only knew him, but I was family.

Many of you may know that I've been involved with the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life for a few years now. This is my 4th year and I am the co-captain of our Relay team at work, the LNS Curewriters. I set a goal last year and set out to participate in honor of my uncle Don and in memory of my Aunt Barbara.

Relay For Life is my personal opportunity to fight back against cancer by raising funds and awareness. I fight so one day no one has to ever face cancer.
It's amazing to think that millions of people will be diagnosed with cancer this year. It has already taken so many amazing people that I love. People like my grandfathers, Marshall Whitlock & JB Thomas; my aunt, Barbara Whitlock; as well as my wonderful friend, Danna. Many I know, like my friends, Hollie & Joanne, are still fighting. Because of them, I am trying to do my part.

Now, more than ever, I want to do what I can to fight back against this ugly disease.

two oh one one.

Believe me, I recognize how cliche it is that I'm finally writing again during the first week of January.

Disclaimer: This is NOT due to a lame New Year's resolution.

However, I am coincidentally back to blogging thanks to the mister. It's actually amazing how torturous it can be to go months without wi-fi. Yes....I realize how nerdy that sounds.
So, in order to embrace the cliche....let's talk resolutions.

As I've said before, I'm not one to make resolutions just because it's the start of a new year. I am, however, a goal setter. My goals for this year? Well, besides the ever so popular "workout until my eyes bleed & swear off all solid foods until I lose 452 lbs" resolution, I have a few more attainable goals.

Uno.
Read more books. -- I actually love to read. Unfortunately, there is a part of me that never makes time to sit down and enjoy a good book. Shameful, I know. I have a stack next my bed just waiting to be read...and I will do just that.
Dos.
Improve my guitar chops. -- Yeah, I've been playing around for years. I think it's about time that improve on my theory and all-around skills. Actually, I started my first official "lesson" yesterday. This time next year I will be wielding the skills comparable to Rodrigo y Gabriela. Not sure how good that is? Check them out here.
Tres.
Become a "super cleaning fairy." -- Yes, I am OCD. Although I enjoy organizing and keeping my house clean, I want to create a schedule for my "chores" and stick with it. I see it more as time management. How exciting.

I usually just stick to three goals each year. Seems realistic & attainable. We'll just have to wait and see how it all works out. I will, however, be sure to blog my little heart out as long as I have wi-fi here in the Dodd house.

So, as everyone knows from my last microscopic post.....I got a promotion!

You know what's awesome? I actually do love my job.

This place is full of crazy people...which leads to uber-crazy conversations. We always joke about how we're practically paid to laugh. That's a good job.

*Disclaimer: Yes, we do work. I promise. We just multi-task well.

I hear things in the office that floor me. Sometimes due to humor. Sometimes due to ignorance.

For example, Monday I walk in to work and say, "Happy Flag Day!" A co-worker looks up and responds, "Oh. Is that why there are so many flags out?"

Fail.

Today, co-worker #1 drops the hole-punch tray. Needless to say, paper dots are everywhere. Co-worker #2 walks by and says, "Someone having a party? There's graffiti everywhere!" ....and walks away laughing. ....Umm, confetti maybe? Nice try.

Fail.

Last week, I'm talking to another co-worker. The conversation went something like this:

Me: I'm going to have to talk to Margo tomorrow.

Her: Mario??

Me: Yeah, we're going to go defeat Bowser.

Fail.

Another co-worker once said, "I THINK I have a dryer in my garage."

You think?

It's an appliance, not a screwdriver. How unorganized IS your garage?

Fail.

My boss is probably known most for his random conversations & outbursts. Not too long ago, he just runs in my office with a paper wad & yells, "Fade away!" as he tosses it. Then smugly leaves saying, "Nothing but plastic."

Of course, I terrorize him as well. He is constantly teased about his daily lunch of nuts & berries. He is also Catholic. Therefore, I tease that his days are merely filled with "hail marys & nuts and berries." hehe.

Recently I've been on a mission to talk him into using "oh buttons" as his official statement of frustration. He's not buying it.

Don't think he's innocent. On my birthday, he told me that I'm "running out of time" and I need to have kids now! I was like, "I'm still young." He replied, "Noooo, you're not!" Boo.

He also monitors my beverage choices. Let's just say that I have been refused a Mountain Dew by my boss because he claims I'm hyper enough naturally. Who? Me??

But, I think the funniest conversation that we've ever had, went something like this:

Him: You remind me a lot of my middle daughter.

Me: Oh yeah? How's that?

Him: Well...she's very humble. Which isn't exactly you.

Me: Oh really?

Him: And she's really into fashion...which isn't exactly you either...

Me: Wow. Thanks. *laughs*

Him: Umm...I'm 0 for 2 aren't I? *laughs*

Me: Uh, yeah.

EPIC Fail.

If you don't follow me on twitter (cough, cough)...then you pretty much miss the random conversations between the mister and I. You know he has to be a pretty interesting guy in order to function well along with my ADHD & OCD. It's a necessity.

I was shuffling through my twitter account and came across these nuggets. I thought I would give my readers some insight on our relationship. hehe.

♥Should the mister be allowed to tell me to "go drown in a lake" and call me a "queen" in the same breath?

♥No Jeremy, I will NOT ride in the back of the truck. Even if it DOES have a camper...

♥So glad the mister is being a fantastic man and sweeping my kitchen floor. Even if he IS singing "Who Let the Dogs Out" while doing it....

♥The mister calls me "Lucille-ifer." I should be offended, but it's too funny.

♥I'm discussing with the mister how my naturally curly hair is getting more and more unruly. He says, "that's because it's turning white." Grrr.

♥Him: "It's harder to eat rice with pork chops." Me: "You mean chopsticks?"

♥Him: What's the highest score in bowling? Because that's what I bowl.

♥Me: Wow. That girl's stomach is hangin' out her shirt. Him: It looks like a water balloon.

♥The mister just told me to go stand in the road, close my eyes & count to 100. I think the anniversary is over.

♥So I tell the mister that I'm bored. He says, "See if you can fit in the fireplace." Gotta love him.

As I read back over these little moments, I smile. How blessed am I to have such an entertaining marriage? I'm hoping that you other couples out there have these same kind of moments. Moments when it's just the two of you acting crazy, when all of a sudden you stop and say, "It's a good thing no one sees us acting like this."

Texas....oh, how I miss thee.

This month has caused me to think about how much I truly miss living in the Lone Star State. Don't get me wrong, I love all of my new found California friends. I just really miss Texas and my family.

I know many who are not from Texas will not understand such loyalty. To help, I've compiled a list from various sources as to why I love Texas more than California.

♥We're taught to say "yes sir" and "yes ma'am" and to respect our elders. We also say "howdy," "fixin' to" and "ya'll."

♥California may claim "real" cheese and avocados....but Texas claims 100% Grade A Angus Beef. Who wants avocados and cheese when you can have steak and potatoes?

♥Our elected leaders, while often not perfect, are not former actors, wannabe actors, widows of actors, formerly engaged to actors or want to work part-time as actors while they "serve" the people as politicians. By and large, Texas politicians are people who care about making Texas better through making things better for Texans. Seems to be working. And...our last governor became the President of the United States. "Ah-nold" isn't even eligible.

♥Texas is the only state that can legally fly its flag beside the United States flag...at the same height.

♥Three words. High. School. Football.

♥Texas is the only state that can secede and become its own country.

♥Our sports teams and heroes are better. With simple names like the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros ... Texas teams are honest, simple and a real representation of our people. We don't have pretentious names such as The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Also, how does the nation's second-largest city lose not one, but two NFL franchises? In college, The Heisman Trophy was named after John William Heisman, the first coach of Houston's Rice University. Greatness personified.

♥Geographically, Texas has it all. In one state you can find mountains, canyons, thick, piney forests, beautiful desert landscapes, the great plains, gorgeous coastal plains, and even swamps if that's your thing.

♥We have better songs about our state. "California Dreamin'" and the The Gatlin Brothers' "All the Gold in California" just can't compare to classical anthems such as "The Yellow Rose of Texas," "Texas, Our Texas," "Deep in the Heart of Texas" or even more campfire-friendly cuts like Jerry Jeff Walker's "What I Like About Texas" or Waylon Jennings' "Luckenbach, Texas." Additionally, our music doesn't fall prey to East Coast/West Coast rivalries ... there are no worries about turf wars in country music.

♥The cost of living is remarkably lower. The price of land and residences are exponentially lower. The difference in what you can buy in Texas for $250,000 vs. California is shameful. We have no state income tax and no taxes on capital gains. No further words about this are necessary.

♥It's safer in Texas. Whether the calamity be weather- or crime-related, Texas fares better than California. Your wildfires cannot be topped and no amount of Earth-rattling will dump us into the ocean. As far as crime goes, we both have the death penalty ... Texas just isn't afraid to use it.

♥Our economy is stronger. The Lone Star State has more Fortune 500 companies than any other state in the Union. Texas has 64 compared to California's 51 -- including three major airlines, AT&T, Dell, Texas Instruments, ExxonMobil ... just to name a few. According to the article in Trends magazine, Texas also created 70 percent of all new jobs in 2008 and enjoys a robust surplus. California is adding roughly $25 million per day to its $26 billion in debt. Ouch.

♥We are Texans. We are a proud people. While we never claim to be perfect, we are real and we strive to make the Union a better one through a better Texas. What matters there isn't how plastic you are or how tan you are ... it's about who you are.

♥We have Blue Bell ice cream, Cracker Barrel, Chicken Express, Cheddar's.....shall I go on?

As the great Sam Houston once said, "Texas could survive without the United States, but the United States could not survive without Texas!"

Also....today is the birthday of one of my very best friends! Actually, one of the people who make living in California that much more fun!

It always helps to have friends who make your stay more bearable. I have to admit that although I've been really homesick this month....I'm so grateful for my amazing friends who keep laughing & enjoying my time here. You guys know who you are. If I tried to make a list, I'd forget someone and would forever be afraid to walk in a dark alley. ;) Love you guys!

Not sure why I want to call it "Rooty Tuesday," but it makes me smile. :) So there.

I need a day where I can be completely random in my posting. (As if I really need an excuse.)

So, I plan on every Tuesday being devoted to the utter randomness that is my life. And oh, the fun we shall have.

My friends and I pretty much have a weekly ritual of piling in my house to play SingStar. For those of you who don't know, SingStar is a karaoke game for the Playstation. It's insane! You'll never understand without video footage, so I offer you just one moment from last night at the Dodd house.

Do remember Christmas Eve nights as a kid? I know that I remember being so excited to the point of complete insomnia...

Well, I'm at that point now and it's not even Christmas.

I must admit that joyous excitement and energetic squeals are not quite a rarity in my day-to-day routine. ADHD plays a big part in that. ;)

Still I continue to be extremely excited about what is to come.

Truth is, I have no clue what's coming. That's the funny thing. I just see things through faith and know that amazing things are in store.

Of course, most people know that our relocation to California nearly two years ago was quite the adventure. We were definitely led here. It seems like things are finally falling into place after two years of complete trust in God.

A lot of this sudden burst of excitement can be attributed to Jeremy and I being asked to join the CREED staff at CLC. Wow. What an honor to even be considered....and then to be entrusted with such responsibility. I can't begin to describe the feeling of anticipation. I know God is going to do awesome things under the new leadership of Micah & Jasmin Johnson. They are an amazing couple!

CREED is the young adults ministry (ages 18-30) of Christian Life Center. It's a place where young adults can connect with God and with each other. We take time to establish friendships, to worship together, and to get clear direction on the purpose of life and our place in the world. No fluff here – just real life issues as real people discuss the dynamics and dangers of being Christian young adults in 2010.

CREED is not a program but rather a community – an open circle of friends that is always growing larger and getting stronger. How exciting to be considered a "leader" in such an awesome work. I'm humbled.

This past week has been a rough one.

My Aunt Milissa passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 2nd.

Thanks to an amazing friend, I was able to fly home to Texas to be with my family for the past week. He called me up Sunday evening and said, "I was just leaving my parents' house after hearing the news and thought of you. I have a ton of Southwest travel rewards accumulated through work and I want to take care of your flight home and back." Wow. It's humbling to have friends like that. He has no idea how thankful I am.

It's all so surreal. I still can't believe she's gone...and at such a young age. I'm down to crying only once a day now...so doing better. :)

My Mom let me know that the Sunday night at church before she died, she sang "Goodbye World, Goodbye." How fitting. She was such an awesome & talented singer. What a gorgeous voice. She recently recorded an album with our good friend, Rita Fulmer. Throughout the album, she sings harmony and plays piano. On one song, she sings alone...and that's the second verse to "Jesus Loves Me." Rita created a slideshow to the song. You can watch and listen to it here.

She was my aunt, my friend, and my first vocal instructor.

I miss her so much. ♥♥

In a world where it seems that the words "modest," "plus-sized" and "fashionable" can not exist in the same universe, I have found my diamond in the rough. Huge love to my friend, Chandra, for her amazing blogging & fashionista-esque ways. More Modern Modesty, or MoMoMod, is indeed my new happy place.

Unfortunately, society has often shunned the clothing needs of the plus-sized woman--sentencing her to, what seems like, a life of moo-moos & elastic waistbands. Thankfully, Chandra has created a blog that offers modest fashion ideas while challenging the ideas that you have to exchange fashion for modesty. It's about time someone said, "Stylish, fabulous, and modest—it’s possible."

What's also awesome is that she's also thinking about sales. I am definitely a "frugalista," so this makes me even more giddy. Plus, she is up-to-date on gift ideas. What hasn't she thought of? ;)

Yep. I did it.

I am now 30. I think it sounds worse when I say it. ;p

So far, so good. I must admit that my transition to this new undiscovered age was EPIC! BirthDAY? Try BirthWEEK!! Mom flew in and a grand ol' time was had by all.

First stop? San Francisco, of course. I truly ♥ SF! We booked a tour of Alcatraz and off we went. Unfortunately, Mom brought the rainy weather with her from Tornado Alley.....so it ended up being just a wee bit chilly. But all in all....it was a very interesting trip. The rain & the fog made The Rock that much more ominous.

The very next day, we celebrated my 30th in style. 80's style, that is. We had sooooo much fun with our "Flashback to the 80's" party. BIG thanks to my AMAZING friend, Danielle, for hosting the shindig at her house. It was perfect!!!

Danielle even had another button for my awesome "button-covered" denim jacket. hehe It said: 30. It's the BIG ONE! She also gave me a gift that I am SO excited to use! In my birthday card from Danielle, I found a gift card to Evy's Tree! If you haven't read some of my earlier blogs, Evy's Tree is an Etsy shop owned by my friend, Amy. I plan on getting my hoodie soon!!! How exciting!

Also take notice of my naturally curly hair....and its fro-like qualities. Folks, it didn't take much to make it that big. Believe me. This is what I fight to tame every day.....and it definitely has a mind of its own!

Of course, my outfit was based on my 1980's hero.....Miss Punky Brewster. I loved her! (What am I talking about? I still love Punky! lol)

I'm so glad that I have friends who like to have fun as much as I do. They were all such good sports and went all out on their costumes. I'm definitely a fan of my bestie's outfit. Israel's zebra print Hammer pants cracked me up!!!

So, thirty is off to a good start. I think I can work with this. Big thanks to all of my friends & family and their birthday wishes. It was wonderful!! I love you all!!

And, of course, no birthday celebration (or any other get-together) is complete without jumping pictures. Danielle and I are the BIGGEST fans of jumping pictures. So, as I wrap this up.....enjoy.

Yesterday I was 6. I promise.

It's so hard to believe that I will be 30 in one week. It seemed so much older when I was a teenager. I don't feel 30. At least not what I thought 30 would feel like.

The mister loves to point out the new wrinkles in my face to me. What a guy. Since we were married at 20, he's seen my younger days. Before the gray hair started showing up. Before the crow's feet. Ah...30, what are you doing to me?

In other news, sorry that I went MIA on everyone. Been sickly lately and haven't been able to kick it. Probably has something to do with turning 30. I don't get over sickness as easily....

What's even better, is that when my boss found out how old I was going to be, his exact words were, "You're running outta time! Why don't you have kids yet?"

I said, "I'm not THAT old..."

"Yes you ARE," he exclaimed.

*sigh*

That topic, my friends, is a whole other blog in itself.
I am thankful, however, that my mom will be here for my birthday. Talk about the best birthday present ever! I'm so excited! She'll be here tomorrow, so pray for the mister. He says we're just alike. If you think I'M a mess....meet Mom. I had to get it all from someone.

Ok, so for those of you who don't know....

I have a web show. Yes, it's true.

The OhMyDodd! Show

It's amazing to me how this all came about. My mom sends me a video camera so I can upload videos to YouTube for her and other friends and family to see. Apparently many others found my randomness entertaining. Who'd have thought?

I've including two of my good friends (Israel & Mishell) as regulars on the show.

Since June, our Facebook fan page has 468 fans! Whoa!

Well, the publisher of the Lodi News-Sentinel happens to be a fan as well and recently asked us to star in their upcoming commercial. Production and filming was too much fun! The editing is finally done and you can check out the online version here.

Nine years ago today, I married the mister. ♥♥

♥March 3, 2001♥

It seems like just yesterday that I was 9 years old and arriving at the Living Word church in Greenville, Texas. I climbed into the church bus, supplied by the church in Paris, and sat in the seat behind a cute little brown-haired boy named Jeremy.

The rest is history.

Fast forward 11 years and we went on our first date. Two and a half months later, he proposed. Five months later, we were Mr. & Mrs. ♥

I know I've said this before, but I won the husband lottery. My mister is truly amazing. He is like no other man I've ever known. I love him in every way possible to truly love someone.

While we've definitely been through our set of struggles, when we find ourselves in less than ideal circumstances it is then that our relationship truly shines. It's like we don't have a problem in the world.

The thought of growing old with him makes me giddy and gives me butterflies. (Yes, he still gives me butterflies.)

Have I mentioned that he's an amazing cook? Oh my, you have no idea.

Something about a guy who cooks breakfast. ;)

I even often find my mind wondering if other couples have as much fun as we do. Do they act as ridiculous as we do when they're all alone? I know people wonder about us. We dance. We tease. We aggravate.

We laugh.

As I remind him where he left his belt.....his phone.....his wallet, I just think of it as a foreshadowing of things to come. It makes my heart smile. I'm so full with love for this amazing man that has put up with me for the last 9 years. Looking past my mood swings. Handling my overwhelming ADHD outbursts of energy. Even allowing the nitpicky OCD habits.

What a man. I love him more everyday.

Fitness. It haunts me.

Of course, it doesn't help when you live with mister "I'll do 2 sit-ups and wake up tomorrow with washboard abs." Ugh.

I really enjoy working out and being active. That's the crazy part. Unfortunately, my ADHD prevents me from most free activities. Like walking.

The boredom from walking alone will put me into a coma. I can also play competitive sports all day. I am one competitive chick. When living in Texas, I would meet up with friends after work at 7pm and play sand pit volleyball until 2:00 and 3:00am. I require a much more social approach to fitness. Either that, or a more fun way....like a game.

In a perfect world, I would go and purchase the arcade game of Dance Dance Revolution and put it in my house. No lie.

I absolutely love to make a fool of myself playing that game. I have a long list of friends who I have forced to humiliate themselves right along with me. It's a must. The best way for a group of girls to get over themselves and just have fun. I have the knack for not taking myself too seriously.

But not only is it fun, DDR will put the smackdown on you and never apologize.

I need that kind of approach to fitness. Any donations would be appreciated. ;)

What is it that gives dogs such an overwhelming power over people?

Man's best friend. So I've heard all my life. Amazing how these four-legged creatures have almost become a necessity in every home.

I grew up in that very home. With my parents being divorced, I had two houses with dogs. We always had a dog. I was the owner of my first when I was just two years old. A German Shepherd. According to my mom, her registered name was "Amber's Little Heidi." Unfortunately, I don't remember much about her.

This was the beginning of a love that I would never lose. Dogs. I love the companionship. I love naming them. Whether it was from my favorite television show or food.... One dog was named Murdock by my brother and I. We were huge fans of the A-Team. Another was Oreo for obvious reasons.

My father was a rancher, so we always had more than enough room for dogs at his house. I recall having 13 dogs at one time between my mom's house and dad's. Of course several of those were dad's hunting dogs.

I am now under the mindset that a home is not complete without a furry, tail-wagging friend.

My husband, not so much. How we managed to exchange vows without me realizing this, I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong. He doesn't hate dogs. He also doesn't need them like I do.

Poor guy. I see a dog without a home and suddenly I am the advocate for dogs everywhere. No questions. They now have a home with me. Whether it be on the side of the road or at the pound. I frequented the local animal shelter...just to visit. I'm such a sap. Deep down, I've always wanted to own a private animal shelter.

When we lived in Texas out in the country, strays were always dumped on our road. If I found them, I led them to the house and fed them immediately, explaining to the mister that if they stayed for two days, they got a name and a collar. We owned a dog just before we left Texas. He was beautiful. A registered Siberian Husky named Zander. I loved my Zan-Man. But he was stolen. It broke my heart.

Now I'm in California. I no longer live in the country with land. I live in town where I can't even have a dog if I wanted one. What's wrong with this picture? I'm dying. I need a dog lover who wants to permanently board a dog for me. So I can visit and play. haha

Until then, I'll have to settle with a fish.

I know that is a played out cliche about family, but in my case it's so true.

My amazing mother celebrated her birthday on Sunday (Valentine's Day), which made me miss her....which made me want to devote an entire post to her and only her. Well...us.

I know that most people who have a good relationship with their parents usually say that they're the best. I listen to this in total skepticism. I believe that to them they are the best. But they haven't met my mom. They don't know Shannon Kay Powell. Because if they did, they would understand that all they have ever known about "good parents" is simply generic.

Let me first explain that I am not a kiss-up. If anything, I'm usually one of the most straight-forward (yet tactful) people you'll know. But I honestly believe that I am one lucky girl to have a mom like mine.

Our relationship is not the typical parent/child relationship, but a true friendship. I don't roll my eyes at the fact that my mom is on Facebook. I would honestly be more inclined to encourage her to get one if she wasn't already a pro. I don't get embarrassed when she comes and goofs off with my friends. Where do you think I got it? I don't keep things from her. I don't sigh when she asks to hang out. I love her and I love spending time with her. She's my best friend. Honestly, we're too much alike. It's scary. Saying the same things at the same time, laughing together....we even share our road rage. ;)

We've practically been inseparable since I was born....until I moved to California. *sigh* It is now that I realize just how much time we spent together. How many Saturdays we spent shopping. How many nights we hung out in our pj's and played Guitar Hero. I miss "Feed the Children" nights when she would have me, the mister and my brother and his family over for dinner every Saturday night. I miss playing the drums in church and having her look over from the choir loft to make faces at me. I miss rooting on the Texas Longhorns together in our hoodies and baseball caps. I miss my mom.

I haven't seen her in six months. The longest I have ever gone without seeing her. I hate it. If she wanted to move in with me tomorrow, she would have a room. No questions asked. haha. I know I have settled here in California for now, but would be more settled if I was close to her. That just makes anywhere....home.

So for now, I'll be counting down the days until we get to hang out again and cause trouble like we always do. Whether she's here or I'm there.

I am definitely my mother's daughter. If you think I'm bad, let me introduce you to my sensei. ;)

Ahhh.....after being on my "death bed" last week, I'm finally back at 100%. *sigh of relief*

I honestly don't get sick like that....ever. Ugh. It was bad. But I'm definitely happy to be feeling better.

I had great expectations of a sweet little post about my valentine, but that will just have to wait now. Our 9-year anniversary is coming up next month, so that will work.

This is a momentous occasion.

I received my first award!

My friend Amy over at The Adventures of the Miraflor Family, who makes those amazingly cute hoodies, gave it to me. It's called "The Honest Scrap" award. Not really sure how I got it, but I am saying it's because I tell things like they are...and I'm scrappy. hehe

By accepting the award, I am supposed to post 10 interesting things about myself. So, let's see what I can do....

1. My nickname is "Rowdy." It has been for over 10 years. Some people don't even know my real name.

2. I KNOW I won the husband lottery!! He's wonderful!

3. I absolutely love music! I play several instruments and I sing.

4. I love organization! The Container Store gives me goosebumps! lol

5. I am a Muralist and have my own business--Rowdy Rooms.

Yes, I am aware that it has been over a week since my last post. I think I've been recuperating from our Landmark Conference last week, PLUS having company for that week as well. I have been worn out!

So, last Tuesday it all started. I was running around all day, went to work and then had to be at the airport in Sacramento at 11pm to pick up our friend, Todd, who was flying in from Texas. Our Landmark Conference at our church (Christian Life Center) started the very next night. I am in the choir, so I had to be at the church over an hour before service each night for sound check. The conference went from Wednesday through Friday, plus I played drums for the Thursday morning service...which had me there at 7:15am for sound check. Understand one thing. I am NOT a morning person. Not one bit. I enjoyed every minute of it though.

Despite my body crying out desperately for sleep, the conference was AMAZING!

Even though the conference was all week, we still managed to get Todd out of Stockton and off to see San Francisco before he had to fly back home.

The Mister and I loaded him up in the car and took off for the pier. It has to be my favorite place to go in San Francisco.

We also did something that we had never done. We took a boat tour around Alcatraz.

We chose to sit on the front of the boat and Todd, being his crazy self, was singing "Barbara Ann" after seeing a boat with the same name. Little did he know that another passenger had come to the front to sit as well. I just looked at the gentleman and said, "Oh don't worry about him. This is normal." Todd whipped his head around completely embarrassed. Oddly enough, once I explained that we were from Texas, it was all peachy. =]

Come to find out, our friendly co-passenger was from New Zealand. For some reason Todd asks the gentleman if he's ever seen the movie, "Dumb & Dumber." The man replies, "Oh! That's where I've seen you before!" Ha! What a funny guy!

I haven't always been a pedestrian.

Living in typical small town Texas, you don't really have the option whether to walk or drive. With the nearest grocery store or restaurant being at least 20 minutes away, it's either drive or forget about it.

I had honestly never really had to deal with pedestrians unless you count driving in the Wal-Mart parking lot. Even then, I never really had the "wrath of the motorist" when it came to waiting for them to cross in front of my vehicle. Maybe that's just southern charm. You know, the whole "manners" thing that we're born with. "No, after you," and I'd just wave them along.

Once in California, I became a pedestrian immediately. I admit it was slightly odd at first. Crosswalks and intersection were a bit of a new thing to maneuver. The awkward dance of "Is there a button to push on this one? Oh, no? Umm....ok." made it a little bit unnerving.

Apparently pedestrians are equated to rodents & other vermin.

I continue to employ the "look both ways before crossing the street" each time I make my way into the crosswalk. My Mamaw's words ring in my ears every time come to an intersection. She instilled this handy little rule in me. Funny enough, I practiced this rule in a small north Texas town of Ambrose. Population: 41.

Despite my cautiousness, I continue to nearly get mowed down each time I place a foot within those white stripes. In the last year, I've had close calls with soccer moms, AARP members and even law enforcement.

I must admit that one incident was not the motorist's fault, but that of the crazy lady that lived in my apartment building at the time. Not sure why she felt that she needed to carry on a conversation with me in the middle of a crosswalk. But she did. Nothing meaningful. Nothing deep. Just an "Amber, right?" as she turned and stood in the middle of the lane in her bathrobe. Trying to turn back and walk at the same time, I said, "Yes ma'am" as a car came to an abrupt stop in the lane I was now walking through. She turned and stood there, shaking her head up and down, as if computing everything that I had just said. All two words.

That I can understand.

However, when the car in the left lane is stopped for me as I cross and a gas-guzzling SUV flies through the crosswalk in the right lane? Yeah, that one was probably the closest call to date. Luckily, I was watching BOTH lanes. I immediately stopped in the left lane and watched as the driver turned to look at me and waved. Not a "Yeah, I knew you were there," but a "Oh, thanks for yielding to me." What's the point of the wave? Seriously.

Now I am not at all saying that I've never had a case of road rage. I sometimes think that my mother and I are the poster children for these occasional outbursts. Of course, I have what I call a "healthy case of road rage." No hidden firearms or brass knuckles in my glove compartment.

But after all of the rants I have heard involving pedestrians and how we are inferior to motorists, I have a thought for all of you drivers to ponder. (Well, at least those that suffer from a superiority complex....)

It is simply this: Pedestrians invented automobiles.

dream a little dream...

Everyone at one time or another has dreamed. I'm not talking about goals or wishes, but literal dreams as they sleep.

I often hear stories of crazy dreams that people have had in the middle of the night. (Most of those stories come from my husband. He has some of the oddest dreams.)

I honestly don't dream very often. If I do, I seldom remember what it was. However, when I do, they are the most random yet realistic dreams ever.

I've always longed to have these amazing dreams that turn into great stories for all to hear. Why? I'm not so sure. I'd at least like to remember what I do dream or have "normal" dreams, so as to have something to offer when others divulge their humorous stories.

Strangely enough, my last dream consisted of me driving around in a convertible with Roger Clemens.

I mean, what in the world? I'm not even a Yankees fan! Of course, he DID pitch for the Red Sox...which might explain the admiration. Ah, but I digress.

I only recall one other dream that I have experienced.

The first happened while I was in high school. I dreamed that two of the coaches (Coach Youngblood and Coach Jackson) were in a monster truck rally. No plot. Apparently I repeatedly watched them make high-speed laps and drive over crumpled cars. How exciting.

Besides that, all I ever get is the infamous "I'm falling" sensation where I flail and jerk like a fish out of water, waking up the mister.

The funny thing, is I take pride in my creativity. One would think that I would have extravagant dreams which require the utmost imagination. Instead, I'm blank.

I hoping that I'm just a really deep sleeper at these times and fail to remember what I've dreamed the night before. Otherwise I might just have to question my creative abilities...

I have so many post topics running through my brain today. However, I definitely needed to take the time to tell this quick story before my ADHD kicks in and I forget.

It all started Tuesday when I went to lunch with the mister at this great little restaurant downtown called Shangri La. Their sushi is AMAZING! But let's not get side-tracked.

Jeremy & I shared a sushi roll and then I ordered the Honey Crispy Chicken. Might I add that this dish is up there with "amazing" as well. So, I had at least half of it leftover and decided to box up the yummy goodness for lunch the next day.

When I arrived at work, I placed MY classy, black to-go box in the fridge and went to my desk.

On Wednesday, I didn't eat breakfast and wasn't able to go to lunch until 2pm. It was all bearable though because I was imagining that to-go box full of deliciousness. Lunch time finally rolls around and I walk to the breakroom. I opened the fridge and there is not a black box in sight. I literally closed it and reopened it to make sure that I wasn't distracted by the bright green Mountain Dew bottle inside.

No black box.

The "Texan" rose up in me pretty quick...that and the mouthy "Thomas women gene." I could not believe that someone would just take my lunch. Especially with it being a to-go box. That's just nasty.

This very same food was on my plate in the restaurant, touched by my fork each time it left my mouth. That fork scraped that food from my plate into the black box. Who would do that?

I decided to notify the culprit ("Stealy McLuncheon" as I called them) of their deed. I wrote a note, in bold black sharpie, that read:

Whoever ate my honey crispy chicken owes me lunch!

I wanted so much to add, "P.S. I have mono." I decided against it. I simply taped the note to the refrigerator door and left it.

In all honesty, I just wanted them to be more aware of their actions. So, since I had very little time left on my break, I had to settle on a donated apple crisp bar and a Diet Coke to tide me over until about 7pm.

The next morning, I arrived at work to find this on my desk.....

I found my note from the refrigerator with a nice, crisp $5 bill tucked inside. It made my day even though I still have no idea who would eat some random, unknown person's leftovers.

Maybe I should put another note up and make myself a pen pal. ;)

January 1st.

Just twenty days ago, hundreds of thousands of people proclaimed their annual new year's resolutions. Some stood determined to lose that extra weight. The double-chin. The flabby arms. The love handles.

Others vowed to hit the gym every day and to stay in shape. Visions of treadmills and stationary bicycles danced in their heads.

Some just desired to be more organized. Tired of being affectionately known as the family "pack rat."

Twenty days ago. 480 hours.

Unfortunately, the majority of those potentially life-changing resolutions are now but a memory to some. Making a new year's resolution became nothing more than a tradition. Something expected of us, but inconsequential if broken.

Paul wrote in Romans 7:15: "...for what I would, that I do not; but what I hate, that I do." (KJV)

I like the way The Message words it by saying, " What I don't understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise."

So many times I have heard others reference this passage, not necessarily to make sin exusable, but to defend their weakness or maybe lighten their responsibility to lead an overcoming life.

If they would simply continue in their reading to Chapter 8, they would find in verse 9 that we "are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you."

One cannot simply cling to the fleshly weakness of Chapter 7 and claim to be of the Spirit described in Chapter 8.

Society has made it so excusable to be wishy-washy. "Promises are made to be broken..." or at least that's what we're told. It's perfectly acceptable to be as vague as possible so as not to ruffle anyone's feathers. We have to be politically correct, you know. (sarcasm intended.)

Joshua 24:15 says, "Choose you this day whom ye will serve."

Jesus said in Luke 16:13, "No [one] can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other."

Who or what are you serving? What direction are you headed?

What have you resolved to do?

This is not a time for cowards. Nor is it a time for fence riders.

We must resolve to do that which is good and right, and then do it.

Resolve to have resolve.

While I am aware of the reputation of San Francisco, I must admit that it has become one of my favorite places to visit.

Not to shop for the latest fashions. Not to eat at extravagant restaurants. I go to look. Mostly through the lens of my camera. It is my absolute favorite place to take pictures.

I had the opportunity to go thrift store shopping with some great friends on Saturday and loved every minute. Honestly, I didn't even plan on spending money. (My husband should be proud.) I just took my camera.

So, here is our girls' day out.....in photos.

Our day started off with a ride on the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) train. It was Isabell's first time riding it, as well as mine. However, Isabell was the one who nearly fell as the train took off. ;)

Danielle was our tour leader.

We arrived safely and began our shopping excursion. We were completely oblivious to the things that our little eyes would see that day. haha

I feel the need to preface this post with a disclaimer.

I am a female sports fan. I thoroughly love sports & cheering on my teams. I apologize if I bore my primarily female audience. But this is me.

Ok. Now, with that said....

After ending their 14-year drought in the playoffs, the Cowboys have finally won their first playoff game since I was 16. Hard to believe that their last post-season win was the same time that I was getting my license & driving my first car.
Ah...my first car. Affectionately known as the "Screamin' White Demon" by all of my passengers. (For a visual, imagine this puppy in white!)

The maroon interior and obnoxiously large steering wheel gave it even more character. (Like that was needed.) Classically, the ceiling was hanging between strategically placed thumb tacks. The stereo was a classic as well. 8-track player with the car radio placed vertically into dash rather than horizontally. It may have rattled a lot, but by the time that thing hit 70, we were coasting.
I remember going out to sell ads for the yearbook with some fellow classmates when my left blinker stopped working. Thankfully, I was able to depend on crazy friend, Spencer, who would hang out of the back driver's side window and point as we approached a turn. We had some good times in that car. But I digress.....
This all brings about memories from a time not too long ago.
I'm so excited that Tony Romo is finally playing as well as everyone claimed he was capable of for the past few years and all is well in Jerryland.
After my beloved Longhorns lost a couple of weeks ago in the BCS National Championship, I could really use a pick-me-up.....

I am now officially in my house!

Unfortunately for everyone who has been reading my blog, this will officially be the end of the apartment tales. I am relieved. No treadmills. No random daily scents in the hallway. No crazy neighbors.

I absolutely love it! Of course, it's a bit empty since we moved the contents of a studio apartment into a 3 bedroom/2 bath home. Our apartment could literally fit into the master bedroom of our new home. Needless to say, there's a slight echo.

I'll definitely post some more pics as they come, but that will more than likely be after I actually get the place decorated. Who wants to see a big room with nothing in it but a couch?

For the first time, I'm feeling at home in California. (Don't tell Mom. haha)

My new home & my amazing church have made this all possible. Honestly, I'm grateful. I feel that eventually I'll be back in Texas....but in the meantime, I'm settled.

Wow. I can't believe it's here.

To think that I haven't lived in Texas since 2008 is CRAZY! As my southern accent is slipping away, I reflect on the past year & some of my favorite photos of 2009.
This year was long & trying, yet it brought so many good things. New friends. New experiences.....

2009 brought a slew of new friends my way. Not just acquaintances, but true friends that I LOVE!

I could make a list, but my ADHD would surely cause me to forget someone. That's a risk that I'm not willing to take. ;)

I'm so thankful that my circle of friends has grown so much in the past year. I take pride in knowing that it's not all one group, or age...but a melting pot of people. Married and single. Guys and girls. Young and...younger.

Although Texas will always be my home, my friends have helped make the ongoing transition to "California living" easier. Even enjoyable.

They have all truly enriched my life since meeting them...

It has already proven to be life-changing. It all started with my mom sending me a video camera to make videos for her to watch back home. The rest is history. haha

I'm just thankful to have made it to another year. Who knows what 2010 has in store?

It's the same story you'll find on every third blog on the web: Real life, work, hangnail, tires need rotating, internet only works half the time, and I feel as if I have nothing interesting to say.

All of that and a somewhat new excuse: I haven't had internet access at all. I DID just get my "early" Christmas present from mom....my new laptop. In all of its awesomeness, I still lack an internet connection. *sigh*

california garage sales.

The past year has definitely been a year of firsts. Moving to California has opened my eyes to some new discoveries.

For instance, I have come to the conclusion that all garage sales in California are selling one of three things: 1) golf clubs, 2) antiques, or 3) what I'll categorize as "unmentionables."

Seriously, it's true. I'm a Whitlock. Californians don't understand what this means. Anyone back home can tell you that Whitlocks are bargain hunters. My uncle owns an auction. My dad & I were hitting garage sales & trades days as soon as I could walk! I'm a garage sale guru!

However, my first day of "hittin' up" garage sales in California was a joke. I KNOW I visited at least 12-15 garage sales. Each one contained these three categories.

Golf clubs, golf clubs, golf clubs. Apparently everyone is having to work more hours due to the economy, thus causing them to neglect their golf game.

When I say antiques, don't think of cute little knick-knacks. Oh no....I'm into THOSE kind of antiques. These are ancient items that turn to dust if you even look at them wrong. Nothing that could be turned into anything fancy. Nope. Guess that's out of the question.

Unmentionables. Well...we'll just keep it at that. Why they think someone wants to buy their used "unmentionables," I'll never know. *shudder*

Oh well. Despite my negative introduction to California garage sales, I'll give it another try. I AM a Whitlock, you know. =]

This week is huge.

Well, not life-changing....but if you're from Texas, it's one of the biggest of the year.

This weekend is the Red River Shootout!

I know I'm in California, so not many understand the importance leading up to Saturday. So, because I have nothing better to do....I'm gonna educate ya. =] The Red River Shootout is the annual college football game between the University of Texas Longhorns and the University of Oklahoma Sooners. The series is considered one of the greatest rivalries in American sports. They have played this game in Dallas since 1912. Texas still has the most recorded wins against Oklahoma with 58 wins since the year 1900. Oklahoma has 40.

I have been raised to love the Longhorns. It's genetic. I've also been raised to "strongly dislike" Oklahoma. =] I'm sooo sad to be in California on one of my favorite weekends to be a Texan. But I'll be cheering from afar. Hook 'Em Horns!!

Not the usual post today....

Earlier this week, Jeremy and I learned that his cousin, Landon Dodd, had been rushed to the ER with difficulty breathing. He had gone to the hospital on Friday with the flu (turns out was H1N1) and was then diagnosed in the ER on Sunday with double pneumonia which complicated everything. Doctors gave him a 45% chance of making it though the night. He's 32 with two young boys, and is in ICU in Tyler, TX. Well, he made it through the night, but doctors were literally taking it hour by hour to see how he would progress. We requested prayer with just about everyone we knew.
Today, we were holding our weekly bible study in our home. We decided to talk about prayer. As we wrapped up, we all held hands and closed in prayer. Just as we were saying, "Amen," the phone rang. Jeremy's brother said that the doctor came in shaking his head and said his lungs (that were completely whited out) have cleared up so much that only 25% of his lungs are affected now! Praise God!!
I know prayer works! So, if you would...please continue to pray for Landon there in ICU at Tyler, TX. He is 32 and married with two young boys. Thanks so much!

I'm going to write a book.

After my time in our apartment building, I feel that others need to be informed of what I like to call "the apartment code." You'd think that they would need to educate me.....

Since leaving the wonder & peacefulness of living in the country while in Texas, I've been thrust into apartment life in California for a little over a year now. Oh what a change. I was accustomed to my nearest neighbor being a half mile away. Now they're a half foot away.

Now, you may be thinking that apartment life is great and I'm being a wimp. Let me take you through a normal day in MY building.

First of all, I have a studio apartment. There are no "rooms." The bedroom is in the living room, which is in the office, which is in the kitchen, which is right next to the bathroom door. My neighbor, of course, has the same set up. However, with the help of his "drink of choice," he falls into everything making the loudest possible noises as things fall off shelves and onto the floor. His lack of balance does not stay in his apartment. He also enjoys evenings of sitting out on the community balcony down the hall while enjoying his beverage. When he decides it's time for bed, he stumbles down the hall alternately bouncing off each wall. How do I know? I watch through my peephole. This came back to bite me the night he bounced off the walls and ran face first into MY door. I held back a startled sound and watched him fall to the ground, moaning, with his beverage in one hand and a cigarette in the other.

In addition to my next door neighbor, I have my beloved neighbor above me on the third floor. He enjoys nightly runs.....on his treadmill. I picture him smiling as he runs. Stanford t-shirt. Reebok sneakers. His iPod earbuds in listening to ZZ Top. I, on the other hand, am sitting on my couch with all of my breakables and waiting for the "earthquake" to end.

Just to add to all of the fun, over half of the people there smoke. This makes for interesting smells in the hallway. To entertain myself, I've started a game to see if I can guess each element that makes up each day's "mystery aroma." So far they have consisted of 1) cigarettes & bologna, 2) old sausage biscuits & laundry detergent, & 3) bologna & sunshine. Have I mentioned that these wonderful odors love to find their way through the crack under my door and into my apartment? Febreeze is my very best friend.

These events have given me the desire to write "the apartment code." It is something everyone should know AND practice. At least in my building.

So if you never hear from me again, I must have been cooking when Mr. Treadmill went for his run. I'll probably be found under my oven vent that fell from the ceiling. Look there first. =]

I know. I know. Honestly, I had thought of throwing in the towel. But NO! Today I was inspired by a friend, Amy Miraflor. Reading her family blog made me realize that I need to blog more myself. So here I am.

I must inform you that I no longer have a personal computer. My beloved laptop decided to walk towards the light in August. So, I'll do my best to find access and keep this thing updated once again. Of course, this means that my video blog - The OhMyDodd! Show - is on a temporary hiatus as well. No computer = No video editing. *sigh* Hopefully I will have a new one by the first of the year.

But if you've been under a rock, or you're just plain bored....go get caught up on the show. =] Until then....I'm out.

We've all established that I experience large swings of OCD in my day-to-day life. Some things I know are a little humorous, but other things kind of annoy me. One in particular.
Actually, I'm not even sure that you can attribute this problem to my OCD. I guess I'll just say it. I'm sure your wondering what OTHER problem this chick could have. So, here goes nothing....

I hate my feet.

Yes, and it doesn't stop there. I don't like people to see my feet. I freak out about it. I hide them constantly. What's even more awkward, is that I LOVE flip-flops. What a horrible contradiction to live with.

I've been this way for a while. I think I can narrow my problem down to my toes. I absolutely hate them. I loathe them. I guess I just felt I needed to express this since it is summer and I am really wanting to bust out the flip-flops. *sigh* I so love flip-flops. If only I had cute feet. If only......

So, let's draw the attention away from my feet and on to today's episode of the OhMyDodd! show.

With this being my last service in Oroville, I feel the need to reminisce.

Oroville has provided great memories in our time so far here in California, not mention great friendships.

I will most definitely miss calling Bro. Krantz..."Pastor." I am glad, however, that for this short time I have been allowed to do so. He & Sis. Krantz have no idea how highly esteemed they are in my eyes. I don't think I have ever admired and "looked up" to anyone more than I do them. Not only do I admire them, but I love them and consider them to be my friends.

So, for the sake of being nostalgic, I will share my favorite "Pastor Quotes." Trust me, you're not ready for this...

With that said, I feel the need to share my story of Sunday night. I didn't even tell anyone! What a surprise. (Don't worry, I'm not getting off subject.....)

So, as Bro. Krantz was preaching his last message as Pastor......something caught my eye. Of course, this doesn't take much. Shiny or moving things always grab my attention, no matter what the circumstance. But this night, it just happened to be a fly.

Flies are general irritating as it is. However, Sunday was unbearable. This one lowly fly repeatedly flew in my line of vision. Not once. Not twice. But all night! Back and forth. Back and forth. There was an entire room, but it had to stay in my line of vision.....all night. Do all flies hopelessly fly the same flight pattern over and over? Maybe this fly had ADHD and was simply too busy watching the ceiling fan...thus distracting him from his flight pattern. All I know, is that it made it hard for this ADHD kid to stay focused.

So, Bro. Krantz.....if you noticed me on the second row looking a little spacey, blame the fly.

I've not really concerned myself with it in the past. I blamed it on fear that I would run out of things to say. Then I realized that I was talking about ME. Surely I wasn't thinking that I could fool myself, of all people! This may come as a shock, but I know myself better than anyone else does.

My dad always said that I could talk to a brick wall. Of course, he should know....I got that quality from him! And you know what? If it answered....I probably would.

whoa....just had deja vu. hmm......

Anyways! I shall accomplish my goal. If you catching me slacking, I'm expecting emails, texts, phone calls, etc. Of course I do expect to be rewarded by comments from all my favorite people out there in blogger world....as well as any new friends that might wander in.

I made a random discovery lately.

It all started with a quest to discover the Texas state fish. (Random, I know....however you must remember who you're talking to here.) So, as I surfed the internet on my handy, dandy iPhone.....I found it.

I do have an unhealthy obsession with iPhone. However, that is the topic of another discussion.

So, as I discovered that the Texas state fish is the Guadalupe Bass......my eyes wandered to a category title that read:

State Dinosaur.

What?!!? Is that really necessary?

Now, I may be the only person who finds this odd (and incredibly humorous). To me it's like declaring the state laundry detergent. Except for the fact that laundry detergent actually currently exists!!

My ADHD is currently in overdrive.
This is me trying to tell you that you'll have to work to keep up with this post.

So, first let's start with a wonderful round of applause for my Dallas Mavericks.
*applause*
I'm guessing that it took me leaving the state for them to shut down San Antonio in the playoffs....but hey, whatever it takes.

I've also recently found myself craving coffee.
all. the. time.

I'll be in Safeway and the magnificent aroma will cause me to float to the coffee aisle. So wonderful.... I think I'll write a poem about coffee. Just you wait.

I now know why I enjoy living in the country.

People are crazy! Since moving into my new apartment, I have had more run-ins with the crazies than ever before. Seriously....

Example A: I'm leaving my apartment as another tenant of the male persuasion is sitting on a bench near the exit. Here is the conversation:

Him: Hello.

Me: Hi. (I continue walking.)

Him: Lookin' good there!!

(I walk much faster.)

Example B: I get home from work to find a man standing outside the entrance. (You have to have a key to enter the building, or be buzzed up.) Again.....another conversation:

Him#2: Hi!

Me: Hi. (Walking to the door.)

Him#2: Hey, I'm waiting for my friend. Can I come up and wait with you?

Me: Umm...no. (Walk in, shut door.)

Crazies, I tell you! Then, I have people stomping overhead....and someone felt the need this week to hammer. All morning. It was like they were building a house...in a studio apartment! *sigh*

Also, I must take this opportunity to give a shout out to my wonderful friend, Sis. Gayla Baughman. I told you I would, and here it is. I'm wondering two things. When will you blog again, and why aren't you following me yet?? ha ha

Nothing really pressing to blog about at the current moment. I will, however, make a promise now to try and post more regularly. I understand that I have become a slacker. I understand the need for me to fill your minds with randomness on a regular basis.

Awesome week last week......my mom flew to sunny California for my birthday.

However, it wasn't quite so sunny when they arrived. Of course, I blamed this on them. Prior to their arrival, the weather was perfect. They show up and the storm clouds hover over head. Luckily it went away a couple of days later.

It's funny being around Texans after being in California for 8 months. Their southern accent cracked me up. I think because I'm just not used to hearing it anymore. I loved it! Of course they took no time to accuse me of becoming "Californian-ized" and losing my accent.

*gasp* I hope it's not true!

Moving on....

Just when I thought all of my gazillion birthday celebrations were done.....Sis. Kim provided yet another. We met up with the Oroville ladies in Sacramento on Saturday morning for some fabulous shopping.....

Easter hat, anyone?

.....and went to Joe's Crab Shack for lunch. Of course, Sis. Kim tells them it's MY birthday and I am then transformed into "Amberella the Splendiferous Birthday Fairy!"

Oh....I was amused. With this fancy new title, it was now my responsibility to dance around the restaurant sprinkling fellow patrons with my magical birthday dust.

Oh yes.

But....it was fun. I think every year we should celebrate "Amber WEEK" so we can get in all of these festivities again.

I was so glad Mom and my Aunt Sherri were able to fly out for my birthday. We had a great time.

I definitely miss my mom.
